Preserving Nature’s Legacy: Hampton Roads REALTORS® Foundation Grants $10,000 to Coastal Virginia Conservancy for Land Conservation Efforts on the Southside
CHESAPEAKE, VA—The Hampton Roads REALTORS® Foundation is proud to announce that they have granted $10,000 to the Coastal Virginia Conservancy (CVC) for neighborhood improvement efforts, which will enhance the quality of life of the residents of Hampton Roads.
“Coastal Virginia Conservancy is so appreciative of the HRRA Foundation’s generous gift, which will be used for future conservation expenses,” said Mary Ann Saunders, Chair of the CVC. “Accepting this gift at a recently conserved park in Chesapeake, CVC wanted to showcase the type of projects we hope to continue to work on in Coastal Virginia to benefit the community.”
Newton Neck Park is located at the end of Bainbridge Point Road, surrounded by heavy industry and residential neighborhoods. CVC, the region’s only local land trust, preserved the largest parcel in its almost 20-year history. With about 1 mile of shoreline on the Elizabeth River’s southern branch, Newton Neck Park now provides walking trails for wellness and birdwatching. In the coming years, along with community input, the city plans further enhancements, including permanent parking under the Veterans Bridge, benches, pedestrian bridges, and fishing.
“By preserving this unique 90-acre forested property, Newton Neck will be forever protected,” said Jennifer Cool, CVC Board and Executive Committee member, REALTOR®, and HRRA Foundation Board member. “This project helps balance green space, residential neighborhoods, and economic growth; and that balance is so important to the Coastal Virginia community.”
